Description

Interrupted follows the author’s messy journey through life and church and into living on mission. Snatching Jen from the grip of her consumer life, God began asking her questions like, “What is really the point of My Church? What have I really asked of you?” She was far too busy doing church than being church, even as a pastor’s wife, an author of five Christian books, and a committed believer for 26 years. She discovered she had missed the point.Christ brought Jen and her family to a place of living on mission by asking them tough questions, leading them through Scripture, and walking together with them on the path. Interrupted invites readers to take a similar journey.

Interrupted is Jen Hatmaker’s account of how God turned her life upside down and then her husband’s life to show them the MORE in the LEAST. If we truly want to love Jesus more then He will take us on a journey to open our eyes to the least of these. God will take our comfortable and complacent and trade it for conviction and for messy hearts that break like His over His children. It is Jen’s personal witness (with all her humor and wit) of how God interrupted her comfortable life and took her on a pilgrimage of faith to question, wrestle, study, pray and finally embrace her way into the true heart of the gospel. And when the embrace came it meant major changes, repentance, growth and even giving up her new cowboy boots. Some Practical things I loved about the book :1. Jen breaks the book up into phases so you really feel like you are going a journey with her.Phase One: Breaking DownPhase Two: The Horrors of Actually ChangingPhase Three: Getting out therePhase Four: Finding Your TribePhase Five : Sent2. After every phase they have a chapter called Brandon’s take. This is the part where Jen’s husband explains where he was and his thoughts on the journey. I loved this because it showed not only how God was moving in her heart but also in his heart. I also loved it becomes it displays that God is a God of unity and the beauty and challenge of marriage and family discernment.3. Also after every phase she has a page of resources books that she used to help her wrestle, study and speak to her on how God was moving in her life.(I especially loved this part because as a book addict I am always wanting to know what people are reading).Interrupted is a story of how our God pursues and speaks His people. Reading Jen Hatmaker’s Interrupted gives readers a fresh and current look at God’s self-revelation that leads to a revolution of the heart, a revolution that interrupts our complex lives and invites us to simply live the Gospel with all we are.
